Monday Mantra | When You Focus On The What Ifs, You Miss Out On What Is

Monday Mantra | When You Focus On The What Ifs, You Miss Out On What Is

Truthfully, it wasn’t all that long ago when my life centered around all the what ifs. It felt as though I was always playing defense, doing my very best to prepare for any possible thing that could happen.

But life has a way of inviting experiences you aren’t able to predict and that you may never be prepared for. Once I began to accept that- letting go rather than holding on more tightly- I was able to clearly see how much of what was right in front me I was missing. These moments you are granted won’t be with you forever, my friend, so don’t make the same mistakes I used to make. Instead, focus on all that is, enjoying every single bit of it, and let all the what ifs work themselves out.

The One New Year's Resolution I Won't Be Setting and Why You Shouldn't Either

The One New Year's Resolution I Won't Be Setting and Why You Shouldn't Either

While the holidays bring lots of joy and cheer as you spend time with family and friends, they also provide an abundance of indulgent sweet treats, all of your favorite delicious eats that only your mom can make taste so good, and maybe a few too many adult drinks. With the new year less than a day away, you’ve likely been hearing and seeing all sorts of messaging telling you about all the “’bad” decisions you’ve made during the holidays and how the new year is right around the corner for you to turn it all around, leaving you feeling nothing other than guilty for indulging while enjoying your festive fun.

So what are you to do but buy-in to the messaging of the food and wellness industry that plays on your guilt, and begin planning out your diet in the new year and the extra time you’ll be spending at the gym and on the treadmill as a means to burn off those extra calories?

Monday Mantra | Simply Notice What’s Happening in Front of You

Happy Monday! Today’s Monday Mantra is, Simply notice what’s happening in front of you.

I wear many different hats in my life, as many of you can relate, I’m sure. In juggling these various roles, I often must transition rather abruptly from one to the next during any given day. To help ease these transitions, while allowing myself to feel more organized and prepared, I often take time on Monday morning to outline what the week will look like, while providing enough flexibility to still give a bit of space for life to occur.

In going through this process this morning, I observed myself becoming extremely overwhelmed and already exhausted from a week that hadn’t even happened yet! It was in that moment I realized what I needed most, which was to simply notice what’s happening in front of me.

While planning can be helpful, giving your full presence to the moment you’re in as it arises will always be best.

How can you choose to simply notice what’s happening in front of you this week?

Redefining my Relationship with Rest

Redefining my Relationship with Rest

We live in a culture that glamorizes stress and the state of being busy, and by no means am I an exception to falling victim to this glamorization. I’ve spent years being busy and when others ask how things are going, I can’t remember a time in which, “Busy,” wasn’t my automatic response. This state of busyness and rushed pace of living has become my normal state of being. And while it looks impressive from the outside, I’m always the first to lose, as it requires me to compromise- whether in self-care, relationships, or the energy I’m able to put forth to any one endeavor.
