Needless to say, the various actions and events that have occurred over the past few months have brought forth a sense of heaviness- a lingering darkness of negativity that has affected so much of our lives and the lives of those around us. As I’ve observed the amount of negativity and hatred that we’ve been immersed into, I’ve been left questioning, “How can I spread more love in the world, even in a small, minute way?” If I’ve learned anything, it’s that love is the root of nonviolence, but love must begin with a love of self. It is only when we love who we are that we can extend love to every person we have the opportunity to meet. This then lead me to the idea of creating a weeklong Love Note Challenge.
Each day, starting today, February 7th through Valentine’s Day on the 14th, I am challenging you to write 1 positive thing about yourself. In writing your self-love note it must be an I-statement, such as I love… or I am… You can write your daily love note on anything you’d like, or use the printable version I’ve provided. After writing your love note for the day, post it or keep it in a place that you can return to it throughout the day- whether that be on your bathroom mirror, in your purse or planner, or posted somewhere at your work station. Each time you see it, you’ll be reminded of how special you are and how there is so much to love about you.
If you happen to begin after February 7th, no worries! Just double up, or triple up your love notes, depending on when you start in order to have a full week of notes. And while this is a challenge to cultivate self-love, feel free to provide love notes to those in your life each day, as well! We could all use a bit more love!
You can share your daily love notes with me by using the tag #vcyogalovenote and by following me @valeriecostelloyoga. I really hope you’ll join the challenge and spread a bit more love along with me!
