Peppermint Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow Whipped Cream


I don’t know about you, but there is nothing I love more than snuggling up with a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. Whether it’s following countless runs down the sledding hill, shoveling at the tail end of a nor’easter, or while curling up to watch your favorite holiday movie, hot chocolate is always the best way to warm you up and fill your heart with happiness. If I’m being completely honest, I’m pretty sure my participation in most outdoor winter activities is only as a means to get the hot chocolate that will surely follow. 

Now, this hot chocolate is rich with the slightest hint of peppermint that will undoubtedly put a smile on your face (and maybe a chocolate mustache). And the pairing of marshmallow whipped cream puts this cup of deliciousness over the top- in the best possible way, of course!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow Whipped Cream

Serves 2


Add milk, vanilla extract, and honey to a small pot.

Heat milk on medium heat for 3-5 minutes.

Add the dark chocolate bar, stirring frequently to allow it to fully melt and to prevent it from burning. 

Add the peppermint extract, if you are using. 

To make the whipped cream, add heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and marshmallow fluff to a large mixing bowl. 

Using either a hand mixer or stand mixer (I've used both with great success), whisk at a high speed for 5 minutes or until firm peaks form. 

Top each mug with a generous dollop of whipped cream and garnish to your little heart's desire! 


Notes: I've tested the hot chocolate recipe with almond milk as a non-dairy alternative and it tasted just as delicious. The only thing I noted was it was a bit less creamy. Also, if you find the recipe to be too rich for your liking, use 6 squares of the chocolate bar rather than all 8, and if you'd like a bit more peppermint, add 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract rather than 1/2 teaspoon. 




2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons raw honey

1 mint dark chocolate bar (my favorites are Green & Black's Organics and Theo Chocolate)

1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)

Marshmallow whipped cream-

(makes approximately 2 cups of whipped cream)

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 tablespoons marshmallow fluff

Optional garnishes- 

Unsweetened cocoa powder 

White chocolate chips 

Fresh mint leaves
