Happy summer solstice! Growing up in Alaska and now living in Maine, I look forward to summer every single year. It is probably safe to say I am not the only one. These 3 months of fun and sunshine are so fleeting but I do my very best to make the most of them. At the beginning of each summer, I take time to jot down a list of all the things I would like to do before the summer comes to a close. This year, I have decided to share my summer bucket list and I hope that you will join in on the fun! The majority of them are accessible regardless of where you live, but feel free to tweak it to fit your location. I am also sharing a brief description of how I plan to check off each one of these items over the next few months.
1. Dinner at a farm-to-table restaurant
We are very fortunate to have many restaurants right here in Portland that serve locally sourced food, however I have wanted to eat at The Well at Jordan's Farm for some time now. They serve fine sustainable fare at their outdoor picnic tables and it is BYOB!
Ever since T and I drove by Crawford Notch State Park located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire on our way to Stowe, Vermont last fall, we have been talking about how much we want to camp there. It is absolutely beautiful and I am hoping this is the summer that we make it happen.
3. Check out a new brewery
T and I love checking out the breweries in southern Maine and we are lucky to have so many to choose from! We recently have been talking about checking out Funky Bow Brewery in Lyman.
4. Read 2 fiction books
I have mentioned how I try to read at least one non-fiction book related to yoga, health, wellness, fitness, and nutrition a month, but I have recently been slacking on my fictional reads. I am going to start out with Elin Hilderbrand’s newest book, Here’s to Us, which also just happens to have recipes developed by one of my favorite bloggers, Jessica Merchant of How Sweet Eats! Any suggestions for my second read?
T and I have talked about how much we would both love to hike Mount Katahdin and I am thinking this summer is the time to do it!
6. Outdoor concert
There are so many fantastic concerts held at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor each summer and most recently Thompson’s Point in Portland has brought quite a few awesome acts to their stage. I am really hoping to make it to one of these outdoor venues for a concert this summer.
7. Watch a sunset/sunrise
I am so lucky to have quite a few beautiful spots right near where I live to take in a sunset or sunrise. I plan to take time to watch at least one this summer.
8. Beach day
9. Paddle board yoga
I love going paddle boarding but I have yet to try yoga on one!
10. Baseball game
Going to a Portland Sea Dogs game is such an enjoyable way to spend a sunny summer day.
11. Picnic at the park
Enjoying a picnic at the Eastern Promenade is one of my most favorite things to do!
I am sad to say that I have not been fishing since I moved away from Alaska, but I hope that will change this summer.
13. 4th of July fireworks
Last year, T and I walked down to the Eastern Promenade to watch the fireworks and I plan to do the same this year. Watching the fireworks go off above the water is absolutely magical.
14. Visit a kombucha fermentory
I am not sure if other cities have a kombucha tasting room, but we are lucky to have Urban Farm Fermentory right here in Portland. I love Urban Farm Fermentory’s kombucha but have yet to try it directly from the source.
15. Local getaway
T and I love going on adventures and have been talking about taking a local getaway this summer. I have been envisioning staying in a rustic cabin or cottage on the lake where we can sip our morning coffee on a deck that overlooks the water. Any suggestions?
16. Lake swimming
Nothing beats spending a day on the lake on a hot summer day.
17. Try a new to me yoga studio
I have taken plenty of yoga classes at a variety of yoga studios here in southern Maine but this summer I hope to try one that I haven’t been to before.
18. Fire pit with s’mores
The combination of sitting around a fire with the stars twinkling above, while roasting marshmallows to prepare gooey, scrumptious s’mores is one of my most favorite things.
19. Eat a lobster roll
Living in Maine provides an abundance of lobster and lobster rolls. I am hoping to determine my favorite place for a lobster roll this summer.
20. Aerial yoga
This is something I have never tried but it looks like so much fun!
Tell me, what are some things on your summer bucket list?
Feel free to join in on the fun and post to Instagram or Twitter using #summerbucketlist. I will be sharing photos along the way and at the end of the summer I will share a post with all of my favorite summer photos.
